I just found out that I won second place for Simple Photo Editing Using GIMP at the Writer’s Manifesto Tutorial Group Writing Project. Thanks to Monika for hosting a fun contest!

I like participating in these contests because it gives me an excuse to stretch and grow, as well as a way to meet other bloggers. I would encourage anyone who wants the challenge of expanding their usual writing topics and style to participate in blog contests.

I submitted Simple Photo Editing Using GIMP to the Writer’s Manifesto Tutorial Group Writing Project. My choices for the top three entries follow.

• Tips for Getting Through NaNo shares advice on surviving and thriving during the upcoming National Novel Writing Month. Tips range from working ahead on your other writing to dealing with family over Thanksgiving.
• How to find good ideas and content for your blog could apply to many forms of writing. Suggestions include: reading what other writers have to say on your topic, browsing social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, and Delicious for ideas, and using Google Alerts to keep track of specific topics. I use this last tip myself and have found it a great way to keep track of the news.
• The last entry is a post from Blog Action Day. Ecomoving: a Tutorial offers suggestions on cleaning your old home and moving to a new home while keeping your environmental impact low.

Over the weekend I’m planning on doing a little housekeeping at Here to Create.

Wednesday will now be a regular post day, rather than reviews. I’m consolidating all the reviews on Fridays and will be alternating between books, websites, and blogs. Instead of the Friday Bookstack, I’m going to feature only one book but give it a more in-depth review. To give you a little teaser, next Friday I’ll be reviewing a terrific book I’m just finishing, How to Become a Famous Writer Before You’re Dead: Your Words in Print and Your Name in Lights by Ariel Gore.

The Friday Photo feature will be getting an upgrade as well. Instead of just offering a photo wallpaper, I’m going to start analyzing each photo for qualities I like and things I would do differently, as well as describing any post-processing in GIMP, my photo editor of choice. I’m hoping this will make the Friday Photo a more valuable tool for everyone, myself included.
